Fourth Semantic Interoperability for E-Government Conference. February 9-10, 2008, at MITRE

Call for Participation

  • Call for Participation Proposals:
    • The Federal CIO Council's Semantic Interoperability Community of Practice (SICoP) is soliciting participation in the Fourth Semantic Interoperability for E-Government Conference, February 9-10, 2006. We’d like to stress that we are not asking for proposals to accomplish work that has not already been done, rather, we are asking for products, services, results, etc. that are essentially in place.
  • Important Dates:
    • Proposals need to be submitted by JANUARY 13th and accepted proposals will be notified by JANUARY 20th.
    • The proposals should be submitted in a paper of no greater than two pages in Microsoft Word. Submissions should include the name of the organization, key technical points of contact, and the key users or audience, either Government or commercial organizations. Also, the proposal should include a description of what will be demonstrated or described along with needs for electrical power and Internet connectivity. NOTE: Space limitiations does not permit us to have conventional booths or displays. Appropriate handouts are permitted and encouraged.
    • For accepted proposals, papers limited to 10 pages in Word or PDF format and/or presentation slides in PowerPoint or PDF up to 30 slides in length, must be submitted by FEBRUARY 6th and will appear in the Conference Proceedings in the Wiki.
    • Though the due date is imminent, there is still time to submit. Contact Brand Niemann at Brand Niemann at niemann.brand@epa.gov to discuss your interest and the deadline.
  • How to Submit:
  • Selection Criteria:
    • Relevance to the conference purposes and agenda topics and relevance to the SICoP White Paper Module topics and Work Groups and Partners (see below) as assessed by the Conference Planning Committee (Mills Davis, TopQuadrant, Kate Goodier, SRA International, Brand Niemann, SICoP Chair, Loren Osborn, Unicorn, Paul Sibbald, Cerebra, and Rick Tucker, MITRE)
  • Selected participation will be featured in one or more of five ways:
    • (1) the February 9th, 12 Noon - 2 p.m. Poster/Vendor period,
    • (2) the February 10th, all day Work Group and Partner Agenda, Tutorials, and Breakout Session,
    • (3) the proceedings of the conference in the Wiki,
    • (4) the SICoP White Papers 2 and 3, and/or
    • (5) special recognitions for excellence and innovation.
  • Content:
    • The paper should describe solutions you are building using semantic web standards and languages. One of the key objectives of this conference is to foster pilot projects and vendor implementations using OWL and RDF technologies and building a catalog of semantic interoperability architectures and assets.
  • SICoP WHITE PAPER MODULES AND THEIR LEADS:
    • Module 1: Introducing the Semantic Web Technologies: Harnessing the Power of Information Semantics – Completed
    • Module 2: Exploring the Business Value of Semantic Interoperability – Mills Davis
    • Module 3: Operationalizing the Semantic Web – Michael Daconta (originally) and Brand Niemann (interim) - Volunteers being sought (Kate Goodier, SRA, has volunterred)
    • Module 4: Knowledge Representations for Semantic Interoperability - Tom Beckman
  • SICoP WORK GROUPS AND PARTNERS:
    • Data Reference Model Implementation Through Iteration and Testing (DRM ITIT): Brand Niemann, Lead
    • FEA Reference Model Ontology (FEA-RMO) and OMB/AIC Reference Model Maintenance Process: Rick Murphy, Lead
    • Health Information Technology Ontology Project (HITOP): Marc Wine, Lead
    • Ontology and Taxonomy Coordinating Work Group (ONTAC WG): Pat Cassidy, Lead
    • Partners (Ontolog Forum, Peter Yim, National Center for Ontological Research, Barry Smith, and Semantic Interoperability Architecture Pilot, Rex Brooks)
